Basketball pro Timur Bas relies on hemp & CBD in sports

Bas, who was crowned Mister Vorarlberg in 2013, places a great deal of value on a balanced diet and regular training, both then and now. The fact that the plant hemp and its active ingredients accompany the basketball player daily is new for the two-meter giant.

From Mister Vorarlberg to Basketball Professional

At just under 10 years old, Timur Bas, who had previously tried his luck in soccer, decided to attend a trial training session with the Dornbirn Lions. The already quite tall Bas didn’t have to think long, as the sport immediately captivated him, and thus began a rather successful career. After his 2BL debut at just under 15 years old, Timur Bas first drew significant attention. In the following years, he was called up to various youth national teams, visited Walsh University in the USA, and subsequently transferred to the Klosterneuburg Dukes in the Basketball Bundesliga. “I owe so much to the sport. Through it, I have not only learned a lot for life but also gained new friends who will hopefully accompany me on my further journey,” Bas reflects on his love for the sport.

Hemp and CBD in Sports - More than Just a Trend

But not only sports, but also the topics of health and nutrition still play a significant role for the Dornbirner. His body, which helped him achieve the Mister crown back then, is still important to him. Approximately 5-7 training sessions per week are on the training schedule. “I really pay close attention to my body. Training is extremely important to me in many respects, but nutrition and regeneration are also a crucial part that many really forget,” emphasizes Bas. Timur Bas only became aware of hemp and its products a few months ago – and he was surprised: “Basketball is an American sport, and through the American media I follow, I had already noticed that many NBA stars like Magic Johnson or Klay Thompson promote hemp products like CBD oils and even founded their own CBD labels. Inspired by this, I also took a detailed look at the plant and, after studying it, came to the conclusion that CBD and hemp protein could be essential components of the sporting future.” The power forward of the SWARCO Raiders Tirol has definitely set himself the goal of implementing hemp proteins and CBD products into his sports routine. “It is clear to me that many still do not know exactly what to think about this topic. That’s why it’s important to talk about it. Ideally, everyone should form their own opinion on how one or the other product can help,” he states.

HANAFSAN & Timur Bas – Together for Awareness in Sports

Both the HANAFSAN team and Bas himself look forward to the new ambassador partnership very positively. Together, new ways of communication should emerge, and specifically in the sports segment, awareness should be raised. The application of hemp and CBD products in sports should also be analyzed more closely. "The goal is to contribute with our research and studies so that top athletes, who must always expect anti-doping controls, feel completely safe. This is obviously not about the active ingredient CBD, but only about the psychoactive and problematic cannabinoid THC in sports. There is a need for education here, and the opportunity to close a gap with HANAFSAN," explains Managing Director Dr. Daniel Feurstein.
