A few minutes by car from Egg in the Bregenzerwald lies Egg Großdorf. Here, Carmen Can has created a space with the Fuchsegg Eco Lodge where both vacation and work become nature-oriented pleasures. It is no wonder that HANAFSAN had invited its ambassadors for a personal introduction right here. Basketball player Timur Bas (AT), footballer Johannes Tartarotti (AT), and field hockey player Laurens Halfmann (D) accepted the invitation. Unfortunately, professional footballer Collin Quaner from Düsseldorf was unable to attend.

Hemp and CBD in Top-Level Sports

The consumption of hemp foods as well as externally applied cosmetic CBD oils is still often viewed critically in sports, despite intensive educational efforts – especially when it comes to competitive sports and the associated THC anti-doping tests. Therefore, it was of great importance to HANAFSAN to provide its brand ambassadors with the latest information on this topic. A recent study confirms what experts have long known: both hemp foods and hemp care products like CBD oils from controlled EU industrial hemp varieties are completely safe – even in top-level sports.

The German field hockey Bundesliga player Laurens Halfmann, for example, has been relying on the benefits of hemp protein and CBD oils for some time. “I believe that as a professional athlete, one can benefit from the positive properties of the industrial hemp plant. However, many are not clear about the difference between industrial hemp and 'drug hemp'.” This is not surprising. Because information that does not correspond to the facts or the current legal situation is still circulating in the media and on the internet.
On Monday morning, the HANAFSAN ambassadors gladly seized the opportunity to get a firsthand look at the facts during the presentation of the study results at the press conference. Professional footballer Johannes Tartarotti: “A positive drug test would be a disaster for me. That’s why a scientific background like the one HANAFSAN has is important to me, so I can act without worries.”

After the press conference, the participants were already expecting an extremely diverse hemp snack with delicacies such as homemade hemp bread with beetroot hummus, asparagus soup with hemp oil, and hemp brownies from the Fuchsegg kitchen. Afterwards, they headed to Sulzberg. There, the athletes had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the cultivation of industrial hemp from the young hemp farmers of "Wälderkrut". With their company founded in 2020, Aaron Kirmair, Gervin Huber, and Tobias Vögel are now cultivating industrial hemp on a large scale in the Bregenzerwald for the first time in many decades.
“The surprise is often great when one sees how much effort is involved in the cultivation and care of an industrial hemp plantation,” explains HANAFSAN founder and managing director Dr. Feurstein. “We are therefore very pleased that we were received so warmly at ‘Wälderkrut’ and that our ambassadors got an insight into the regional hemp cultivation.” Afterwards, the young athletes took the opportunity back at the Fuchsegg Eco Lodge to complete their training or relax in the inviting sauna house with an outdoor pool – before a very special highlight was on the program that evening.

The Hemp Dinner

Even the hemp snack at lunch had raised expectations for the dinner under the promising title “Hemp & Meadow.” What Chef Bernhard Muxel then conjured up in the evening with, around, and from hemp astonished not only the athletes but also Dr. Feurstein himself: “I am of course aware of the various applications of our organic hemp foods, but what we got to enjoy this evening really surprised me. This was culinary art at the highest level.” The athletes were also thrilled. “I already like hemp protein shakes or hemp seeds on salad,” says Timur Bas, “but I wouldn’t have thought that so many delicious things could be made from hemp!”

Much was perfect during these first HANAFSAN Ambassador Days, only the weather on Tuesday morning did not cooperate. Therefore, after a restful night in the rooms of the Fuchsegg Eco Lodge scented with silver fir, the athletes returned home in the morning, strengthened and full of new impressions. It was an informative and sociable few days in an extraordinarily inviting setting – and certainly not the last HANAFSAN Ambassador Days.
