CBD oil for dogs and other animals – effects, application & risks
For years, people have benefited from the cultivated plant hemp. Animals can also benefit from hemp and its cannabinoids. Many pet owners see an advantage in natural alternatives compared to conventional products. The vilification of cannabis as a recreational substance and its equation with cocaine, heroin, and opium led, among other things, to its prohibition. Until 1961, it was illegal to research cannabis in the USA. Today, the rediscovery of the plant and its medical benefits is almost undisputed. Hemp is also back in the cosmetics and textile industry. Numerous studies revolve around the now over 100 known cannabinoids. In this context, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) is increasingly coming into focus in research.
CBD Oil for Dogs and Other Animals – Effects, Applications & Risks
Significantly responsible for the lively therapeutic interest, from a scientific standpoint, was primarily the discovery of the body's own endocannabinoid system. This system is a network of receptors that are distributed throughout the body and can interact with the body's own endocannabinoids. The plant cannabinoid CBD also binds to these receptors and can regulate their processes. Cannabinoids are therefore not foreign substances and are well known to the organism. The endocannabinoids produced in the body regulate functions in organs such as the brain (specifically in nerve cells), the stomach, and the skin, among other things. Thus, at the cellular level in the organs, influenced by the endocannabinoid system, there is an impact on sleep, the cell cycle, stress, inflammatory processes, and pain. Just like humans, all other mammals also possess such an endogenous endocannabinoid system, to which the natural substance CBD can bind. Effects and areas of application, for example in natural cosmetics as a protective and care product, are therefore similar for animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses, as they are for humans. Studies with animals, apart from the necessary and mandated animal tests as part of planned human studies, are relatively rare. The World Health Organization (WHO), whose mission is to "provide a better and healthier future for people worldwide," confirmed the safety of cannabidiol in a report published in 2017 and highlighted its potential benefits. New scientific insights about the use of the cannabis plant are constantly emerging. Recently, there has been an increase in studies regarding CBD in the cosmetic sector. Cannabidiol is described as anti-oxidative, nourishing, protective, and sebum-reducing. Worldwide, hundreds of studies in various fields are underway to generate new data that further demonstrate the wide-ranging benefits of cannabinoids.
Effects, Benefits & Possible Side Effects of Cannabidiol
Researchers believe that mammals can benefit similarly positively from the natural substance CBD as humans do. There are now a considerable and steadily increasing number of reports from pet owners, dog trainers, and veterinarians highlighting the benefits of the substance. It has been described that CBD can be helpful, among other things, for stress and inner restlessness as well as for skin and coat problems. What should be considered? Products for animals, especially for cats, should contain as little THC and no terpenes as possible. The labeling on CBD products with the addition of THC < 0.2% is absolutely insufficient in this regard.
CBD Products for Animals: What Pet Owners Should Pay Attention To
As mentioned earlier, all mammals possess an endocannabinoid system, so the effects and areas of application for humans and animals are similar. In addition to the high-quality natural CBD, attention should also be paid to the HANAFSAN carrier oil (organic hemp seed-salmon oil mixture). For example, vitamin E eliminates harmful free radicals. The ratio of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids is ideal and balanced. It is no coincidence that hemp seed oil is described as one of the healthiest oils. This combination of the highest quality natural raw materials characterizes the HANAFSAN CBD drops.
