One might say: Activated carbon or "Carbo medicinalis" is nothing more than conventional plant charcoal. But it's not that simple. Only through complex processes and high temperatures is the carbon "activated." In these activation processes, a distinction is made between natural gas activation and treatment with steam and chemicals. The result is the same: hollow chambers in the structure of the carbon. With the increased surface area by up to 500%, the special ability to adsorb dirt particles from its surroundings or from water (pollutants cling to the surface) is enhanced to the same extent. By the way: A teaspoon of activated carbon has the incredible surface area of a soccer field! Thus, it is our hero in the fight against pollutants of all kinds.
