Buy THC & CBD Cannabis Seeds – All About Cultivation, Strains, and Legality

Hemp seeds from certified EU industrial hemp are permitted as food throughout Europe and are already commercially available in numerous supermarkets. In addition, specialized stores and online shops also offer cannabis seeds that are solely intended for the cultivation of CBD- and THC-containing cannabis plants. Due to the legalization of cannabis in Germany, the legally permitted private cultivation of cannabis will increase significantly. In this blog, we will focus on the differences between CBD and THC seeds, discuss cultivation, and take a closer look at German and Austrian legislation.

Hemp seeds are the seeds of the hemp plant, also known as cannabis. They are rich in nutrients such as proteins, unsaturated fatty acids, fiber, and minerals like magnesium, iron, and zinc. Hemp seeds can be eaten raw, roasted, or shelled and are a popular ingredient in many healthy recipes like smoothies, salads, and granolas. These non-cannabinoid containing seeds, which are permissible as food, should not be confused with cannabis seeds that are intended for cultivation. The latter develop into cannabis plants, whose female flowers have a high cannabinoid content and are precisely why they are bought and grown. In some countries, such as Austria, it is legal to buy hemp seeds for personal use. Cultivation is also allowed to a certain extent, although the sensibility of it can be questioned. As a non-flowering ornamental plant, everything is literally in the green zone legally. However, if the female plant produces flowers, the limit is exceeded. With legalization in Germany, cannabis enthusiasts residing in Germany can legally grow up to 3 cannabis plants at home in the future. Thus, Germany is treading new ground in this area within the EU. There are various types of cannabis seeds tailored to different needs and preferences. Some seeds are specifically designed for growing CBD-rich plants, while others have a higher THC concentration. If you intend to grow hemp, you should first inform yourself about the legal regulations in your country.

Overview of Different Types of Cannabis Seeds

  • Certified EU Industrial Hemp Seeds: Approximately 50 different varieties available. CBD concentrations in cannabis flowers about 3-8%; THC <0.3%. Permitted throughout the EU, as the critical THC content of 0.3% is NOT exceeded.
  • CBD Cannabis Seeds: Dozens of varieties available. CBD concentrations in cannabis flowers 5-15%; THC <0.3-1%.
  • THC Cannabis Seeds: Hundreds of varieties available. THC concentrations in cannabis flowers 5-25%; CBD 0.5-4%.
  • THC Cannabis Seeds (Medical Cannabis): Dozens of varieties available exclusively for registered pharmaceutical companies with a corresponding cultivation license. THC concentrations in cannabis flowers 5-21%; CBD 0.5-5%.

Female and Male Cannabis Seeds

Most cannabis seeds are feminized, meaning they only produce female plants needed for the extraction of cannabis flowers and extracts. However, there are also regular seeds, such as EU industrial hemp seeds, which produce both male and female plants, as well as autoflowering seeds that automatically transition to the flowering phase regardless of lighting. If you intend to grow cannabis, you should have sufficient knowledge and experience in plant cultivation. Cultivation requires specific techniques and equipment to achieve a successful harvest.

Here are some basic steps to consider when growing cannabis:

  • Choose the right seeds: Select high-quality cannabis seeds that are suited to your needs and preferences. You can obtain seeds online or from a trusted dealer.
  • Set up a growing area: Choose a suitable growing area that provides adequate space, light, and ventilation. You can use a grow chamber or tent to control the environmental conditions.
  • Use a suitable growing medium such as soil, coconut fiber, or hydroponics to meet your plants' nutrient needs.
  • Control the environmental conditions: Monitor and control humidity (40-50%), temperature (20-25°C), and lighting (intensity and duration) to ensure optimal growing conditions. To transition from the vegetative phase to the flowering phase, the lighting time is reduced from 20 hours to approximately 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. If the plants receive too much light, it can slow down or even interrupt the flowering phase.
  • During the flowering phase, it is best to use organic fertilizers and nutrients to promote and enhance your plants' growth.
  • Harvest: Once your plants are fully mature, you can harvest and dry the flowers. The ideal time is just before most trichomes (small hairs on the flowers) turn dark. If the trichomes are clear, the plant is not yet ready for harvest.
  • The duration of the flowering phase can vary depending on the strain and the factors mentioned above. In general, the flowering phase lasts about 8-12 weeks. It is important to carefully observe the plants during the flowering phase and watch for signs of mold or pest infestations.

Popular Cannabis Strain:

One of the most popular THC cannabis strains in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland is the one named Amnesia, known especially for its strong and long-lasting effect. It is a Sativa-dominant strain that has emerged from a cross of various Haze strains. Amnesia has large and dense buds with a high resin content and an intense lemon and lime scent and flavor.
